Falcons Host Tri-Match With Lancers & Leopards On Senior Day

Sylvester, Carroll, Woolley & Osborne honored on Senior Night 

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's volleyball team hosted the Lancers of Worcester State and the Leopards of Wentworth Institute this evening at the Parkinson Gymansium as the Falcons dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions, while the Lancers of Worcester State earned a 3-0 victory in the second match over Wentworth.

How It Happened

Senior Kristina Osborne (Ashby, Mass./North Middlesex) led the way for the Falcons in the opening match with a team-best nine digs and three kills, while sophomore Paige Anderson (Winchendon, Mass./The Winchendon School) collected five service aces and three digs. Junior Kathryn Newcomb (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth) was also solid for the Green and Gold with three kills, one dig and one service ace.

For the Lancers, senior Allie Nolan (Melrose, Mass./Melrose) registered a match-best 29 assists, two kills and one dig, while classmate Megan Leavens (Storrs, Conn./Edwin O. Smith) added 13 digs, one kill and one assist.

Inside the Numbers

This afternoon's contest will mark the 16th meeting between the two teams on the volleyball court with the Falcons currently 11-5 all-time when taking on the Lancers.

Worcester State has won the last four matches against Fitchburg State, including a 3-0 decision last season at the Lancers Athletic Center.

Match 2:

Worcester State defeated the Leopards of Wentworth Institute 3-0 in the middle match at the Parkinson Gymnasium on the campus of Fitchburg State.

The Lancers were led by senior Amari King (Lawrence, Mass./Lawrence) with 19 digs, nine kills and two service aces, while Nolan added 36 assists, nine digs, two blocking assists and three kills.

For the Leopards, freshman Mary Zlotosch (Durham, N.H./Dover) finished with 19 assists, three digs, one solo block and two kills, while junior Lexie Cambray (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Guertin) chipped in with 15 digs and two assists.

Match 3:

Wentworth rebounded in the third match of the day, registering a 3-0 victory over Fitchburg State in the night cap as Zlotosch continued her strong play for the Leopards, finishing with 12 assists, seven kills, three service aces, two blocks and eight kills, while newcomer Jade Iadarola (Miami, Fla./Rye) added to mix with 12 digs, three kills and one assist.

For the Green and Gold, senior Nicole Sylvester (Everett, Mass./Everett) paved the way with a match best 14 digs and three kills, while classmate Kathryn Carroll (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) chipped in with three digs, four assists and two kills. Junior Jaquelyn Manyak (Bolton, Mass./Nashoba Regional) was strong as well for the hosts, registering four digs, one kill, four assist and one service ace.

This evening's match will mark the seventh meeting between the two squads on the volleyball court with the Falcons 6-1 all-time when taking on the Leopards

This evening was senior day and the Fitchburg State University women's volleyball team honored four seniors playing in their final regular season: #1 Annie Woolley, #7 Kathryn Carroll, #8 Nicole Sylvester & #14 Kristina Osborne.
