Falcons Excel MASCAC Women’s Cross Country Championships

Kelly and Taylor lead Falcons to fifth place finish

Westfield, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's cross country team finished fifth overall 2017 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) women's cross country championship this afternoon with a total of 113 points at Stanley Park.

How It Happened

The Green and Gold were paced by junior Amy Kelly (Stoughton, Mass.), who finished 17th overall with a time of 20:34.60, while classmate Casey Taylor (Chelmsford, Mass.) followed in the 26th slot, turning in a time of 21:12.82 over the 5K course.

Newcomer Kambrynn Bowman (Norton, Mass.) was next, posting a time of 21:13.91, while senior Shawna Ryan (Hanson, Mass.) entered the chute with a time of 22:19.84.

Rounding out the top finishers for Fitchburg State were senior Nicole Gaffney (Paxton, Mass.) (22:22.03), junior Jennifer Desilvestre (Beverly, Mass.) (25:26.28) and freshman Danielle Neild (Auburn, N.H.) (25:42.52).

Inside the Numbers

Fitchburg State finished fourth overall at last year's MASCAC Women's Cross Country Championships with a total of 119 points

Worcester State claimed first place by amassing a total of 35 points

Senior Jess Cardin (Sutton, Mass.) claimed top honors, finishing first overall with a time of 18:19.40.

Worcester State women's cross country head coach Gary Jusseaume was named 2017 MASCAC Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year.
