Falcons Picked Fifth In MASCAC WXC Pre-Season Poll

Fitchburg State collect 19 points to earn the fifth spot in 2021 preseason poll

FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State women's cross country team was recently selected fifth with a total of 19 points in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASACAC) Pre-Season Coaches Poll as voted by the league coaches.

Bridgewater State was selected to capture the 2021 Women's Cross MASCAC Championship this season after claiming four of the seven first place ballots to amass 34 points in this year's poll, while Westfield State collected 33 points to land in second place, which included the final three first place ballots. Worcester State followed in third with a total of 24 points, while Framingham State was picked fourth, collecting 20 points.

Sitting in fifth place was Fitchburg State with a total of 19 points, while Mass. Maritime and MCLA closed out this year's MASCAC women's cross country poll in sixth and seventh with nine points and eight points respectively.

Over the next few weeks, the seven MASCAC Women's Cross Country teams will begin their season, culminating with the MASCAC Championships on October 30th, hosted by Fitchburg State at the Doyle Conservation in Leominster, Mass.

The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation's oldest Division III men's and women's playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of football and men's ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in football in 2013-14.
