Fitchburg State Tunes Up At All New England Meet

Spano leads men's team to 40th place finish; Page runs strong for women's team

BOSTON, Mass (October 11, 2008) - The Fitchburg State men's and women's cross country team participated in the All New-England Meet held at legendary Franklin Park in Boston, Mass this afternoon. Both the men's and women's team had a strong showing in the All New England race where Division I, II, and III schools meet.

With its participation, Fitchburg State becomes one of the first Massachusetts State College's to race in this event in numerous years. The men's team finished 40th overall out of 47 schools while the women's team placed 45th overall.

Individually, sophomore Matt Spano (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) led the Fitchburg State men's team in its 5 mile race, finishing 181st out of 316 runners with a time of 27:04. Senior captain Phil McCormack (Fitchburg, Mass./Fitchburg) was also solid, posting a 195th place finish and a time of 27:12.

Freshman Katelyn Page (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) led the Falcons women's team in the 5K race, finishing 231st with a total time of 21:08. Junior Stephanie Jarvis (Hopedale, Mass./Hopedale) also ran strong for Fitchburg State with a total time of 21:44.

Fitchburg State will be in action again next Saturday as it participates in the CCRI Invitational.
