Fitchburg State Men’s Cross Country Team Places 14th At ECAC Division III Championships

Spano places 30th out of 322 runners to lead Falcons in ECAC meet

BRISTOL, R.I. (November 9, 2008) - The Fitchburg State men's cross country team recorded a 14th place finish out of 56 registered teams as it competed in the ECAC Division III Cross Country Championships in Bristol, Rhode Island.

Sophomore Matt Spano (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) was the top performer for Fitchburg State, finishing the 8K race with a 14th place finish out of 322 runners. Spano sparked the Falcons with a time of 27:34 and a pace of 5:33 per mile.

Freshman Chris Kibler (Bath, Maine/Morse) was also solid for the Fitchburg State core, placing second on the team and 70th in the race with a time of 28:25. Senior captain Shane McDowell (Nashua, N.H./Nashua) followed Kibler into the shoot, placing 80th overall with a time of 28:37.

Senior Adam Parslow (West Boylston, Mass./West Boylston) and junior Tim Wood (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) rounded out the Falcons top five runners as Parslow finished with a time of 29:21 and Wood registered a solid time of 29:27.

The Fitchburg State men's cross country team awaits its berth into the NCAA Regional next weekend at Williams College. The meet is scheduled to being at 11 a.m.
