Fitchburg States Places At UMass Dartmouth Invitational
McCormack leads men to 13th place finish; Jarvis leads women in second meet of season
DARTMOUTH, Mass. (September 20, 2008) - The Fitchburg State men's and women's cross country team participated in the UMass Dartmouth Invitational this afternoon on the campus of UMass Dartmouth. The men's team turned in a solid performance, finishing 13th out of 38 teams, while the women placed 34th overall.
Senior captain Phil McCormack (Fitchburg, Mass./Fitchburg) was the top men's performer for Fitchburg State for the second straight week, placing 58th out of 278 runners with a total time of 26:23. Sophomore Matt Spano (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) was also solid with a 91st place finish and a time of 26:57, while junior Kyle Schaeffer (Hudson, Mass./Hudson) and senior Keon Valcourt (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) finished 93rd (27:01) and 94th (27:04) respectively.
Junior Stephanie Jarvis (Hopedale, Mass./Hopedale) was the Falcons' top women's performer for the second consecutive week, placing 156th out of 310 runners, while freshman Katelyn Page (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) finished strongly at 164th place. Sophomore Linda Fortunato (Feeding Hills, Mass./Agawam), senior captain Emily Sullivan (Billerica, Mass./Billerica), and newcomer Lisa Dias (Rehoboth, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth) rounded out the Falcon top five.
Fitchburg State will be in action again next Saturday as it participates in the Worcester City Meet at 11 a.m.
