Fitchburg State Runs Strong At All-New England Meet

Kibler and Boudreau turn in top performances for the Falcons

BOSTON, Mass. (October 10, 2009) - The Fitchburg State cross country team ran strong in the All-New England Meet at Franklin Park this afternoon. The men posted a 41st place finish with 1132 points, while the women finished 48th with 1407 points.

Sophomore Chris Kibler (Bath, Maine/Morse) ran solid for the second straight week, finishing 193rd overall. The second year sensation totaled a team-best time of 27:01 on the slick and muddy course, while senior Kyle Schaeffer (Hudson, Mass./Hudson) followed closely with a time of 27:06. Junior Matt Spano (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) crossed the finished line right behind the Falcons top two, registering a time of 27:29 for 233rd place. Freshman Pat Lucas (Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan) rounded out the top-four varsity runners, finishing strong with a time of 28:21.

On the women's side, graduate Rachel Boudreau (Westport, Mass./Westport) continues to run hard, finishing first on the Falcons squad with a 258th place finish. The veteran runner posted an impressive time of 21:36, while senior Linda Fortunato (Feeding Hills, Mass./Agawam) steadily improved with a time of 22:11. Fortunato has been a consistent runner for the Falcons, finishing in the Fitchburg State top three in the last three races. Senior Stephanie Jarvis (Hopedale, Mass./Hopedale) rounded out the women's big three, finishing just seconds behind Fortunato with a time of 22:15.

The Fitchburg State men's and women's cross country teams will be back in action next weekend as it defends its conference championship at the annual MASCAC meet on Saturday.
