Fitchburg State Opens 2009 Season At Keene State
Men post 72 points in third place finish; women notch fourth place showing
KEENE.N.H. (September 5, 2009) - The Fitchburg State men's and women's cross country team opened its 2009 season this afternoon as the Falcons competed in a tune up meet at Keene State College. The men's team finished third overall with 72 points, while the women totaled 96 points for a fourth place finish.
Senior Kyle Schaeffer (Hudson, Mass./Hudson) earned the top spot for the Fitchburg State men, finishing 11th overall with a time of 17:22, while sophomore Chris Kibler (Bath, Maine/Morse) followed in 12th with a run of 17:23. Freshman Pat Lucas (Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan) and senior Tim Wood (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) turned in solid times of 17:34 and 17:41 respectively, while freshman Michael Grasela (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) rounded out the Falcons top-five with an 18:49 effort.
On the women's side, graduate Rachel Boudreau (Westport, Mass./Westport) sparked the Falcons, finishing 14th overall with a time of 13:10. Newcomer Emily Lane (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) was also solid in her collegiate debut, posting an 18th place finish with a time of 13:37. Sophomore Katelyn Page (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) finished 20th overall with a time of 14:07, while seniors Linda Fortunato (Feeding Hills, Mass./Agawam) and Stephanie Jarvis (Hopedale, Mass./Hopedale) completed the women's top-five.
Fitchburg State will be in action again on Friday at 4 p.m. as it hosts the Jim Sheehan Memorial at Coggshall Park.
