Fitchburg State Places At Worcester City Meet

Three Falcons earn All-Worcester All-Star honors in meet

WORCESTER, Mass. (September 26, 2009) - The Fitchburg State cross country team competed in the Worcester City Meet this afternoon hosted by Worcester State College. The Falcons men's team finished second overall, while the women's team earned fifth.

Senior Kyle Schaeffer (Hudson, Mass./Hudson) led the Falcons men's team for the fourth week in a row, earning Worcester All-Area All-Star honors with a fourth place finish. The senior captain totaled a time of 27:45, breaking into the top 10 fastest times in course history.

Joining Schaeffer on the All-Star team was sophomore Chris Kibler (Bath, Maine/Morse). Kibler boasted a fifth place finish with a time of 28:07, while freshman Pat Lucas (Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan) collected his first all-star honor with a sixth place finish and a time of 28:08.

Junior Matt Spano (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) aided the Falcons with an 11th place finish and a time of 28:41, while freshman Will Lary (Winchendon, Mass./Murdock) broke the Falcon top five with a time of 30:42.

On the women's side, senior Linda Fortunato (Feeding Hills, Mass./Agawam) was the Falcons top finisher, placing 11th overall with a time of 22:26, while freshman Emily Lane (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) followed closely in 12th, just hundredths of a second behind Fortunato.

Sophomore Katelyn Page (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) was the third finisher for Fitchburg State, placing 21st with a time of 23:11, while senior Stephanie Jarvis (Hopedale, Mass./Hopedale) notched a top performance with a time of 23:47. Senior Francesca Boggs (Swampscott, Mass./Learning Prep) rounded out the Falcons top five with a time of 23:47.

Fitchburg State will be back in action next Saturday as it participates in the Keene State Invitational at 11 a.m.
