Falcon Duo Collects MASCAC Post-Season Honors

Kibler and Spano named to 2010 MASCAC All-Conference team

FITCHBURG, Mass. (November 18, 2010) –The Fitchburg State men’s cross country team named two players to the MASCAC All-Conference team as announced by league commissioner, Angela Bauman.

Junior Chris Kibler (Bath, Maine/Morse) and senior Matt Spano (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) took home the lone post-season honors for the Falcons cross country squad, earning All-Conference and All-Alliance nominations this fall.

Spano earned his third consecutive All-Conference bid this season after placing third overall at the MASCAC Championships. At the Championships, Spano etched his name in the Falcon record books, posting the program’s fastest time on the Westfield State course. The four-year runner finished the 8K layout in 25:53, leading Fitchburg State to a third place showing.

Following the MASCAC Championships, Spano notched his second post-season honor of the season, earning All-Alliance honors in Paxton, Massachusetts. Spano registered the second highest MASCAC finish of the weekend, placing fifth overall with a time of 26:40.

Adding to the Fitchburg Sate 1-2 punch this season was junior Chris Kibler, who for the second year in a row, was named to the MASCAC All-Conference team. Kibler followed suit with Spano, posting the second fastest time on the Westfield State course. The third-year member finished fourth overall, posting a blazing time of 25:54. The very next weekend, Kibler was awarded All-Alliance honors, finishing the 8K race in a time of 26:52 for sixth place overall.

The Fitchburg State men’s cross country team wrapped up its 2010 campaign this past weekend as it competed at Williams College in the 2010 NCAA Regional Championships. The Falcons placed 23rd overall, beating out 30 other competing squads.
