Fitchburg State Competes At Keene State

Men finish fifth with 156 points; women place eighth with 237 points

KEENE, N.H. (October 2, 2010) –The Fitchburg State men's and women's cross country teams were back in action this weekend as they competed at the Keene State Invitational this afternoon. The men's team finished fifth overall with 156 points, while the women placed eighth with 237.

Senior Matt Spano (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) paced the Fitchburg State men's squad in the 8K layout, placing 24th with a time of 27:35, while sophomore Will Lary (Winchendon ,Mass./Murdock) finished 38th overall with a 28:51 effort. Classmate Mike Grasela (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) was the third Falcon to cross the finish line with a time of 29:11 (43rd), while sophomore Pat Lucas (North Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan) and junior Larry Teague (Tyngsboro, Mass./Greater Lowell) rounded out the Falcon five with times of 30:33 (58th) and 30:59 (61st) respectively.

On the ladies side, junior Katelyn Page (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) led the Fitchburg State women's team, posting a 45th place finish and time of 22:15 over the 3K structure. Graduate Linda Fortunato (Feeding Hills, Mass./Agawam) finished just five spots behind Page with a blistering pace of 22:33, while junior Katy Scott (Wilbraham, Mass./Wilbraham) solidified the Falcons three spot with a time of 24:55 (73rd). Classmate Lisa Dias (Rehoboth, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth) crossed the finish just after Scott with an effort of 24:56, while sophomore Emily Lane (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) and senior Erin Abbott (Warwick, Mass./Pioneer Valley) finished 75th (24:57) and 77th (25:02) respectively.

Fitchburg State will be back in action again next Saturday as it competes at Franklin Park for the All-New England Meet starting at 11 a.m.
