Fitchburg State Boasts Strong Effort At NCAA Regionals

Kibler notches top MASCAC finish with 57th place effort

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. (November 13, 2010) –The Fitchburg State men's and women's cross country teams competed at the NCAA New England Regional Championships this weekend hosted by Williams College. The men finished 23rd out of 53 starting teams, while the women placed 48th  out of 53 competing squads.

Junior Chris Kibler (Bath, Maine/Morse), a potential MASCAC Runner of the Week honoree, earned the top MASCAC finish of the day, placing 57th overall with a time of 27:06 over the 8K layout. Senior Matt Spano (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) ranked second on the Falcons squad with a time of 28:15 and 121st place finish while sophomore Mike Grasela (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) placed 175th with a 29:13 effort.

Sophomore Will Lary (Winchendon, Mass./Murdock) and junior Larry Teague (Tyngsboro, Mass./Greater Lowell) rounded out the Fitchburg State top five runners with times of 29:57.1 and 29:57.9, while freshman Chris Ross (Brookfield, Mass./Tantasqua Regional) and Pat Lucas (North Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan) completed the Falcon finishers.

For the ladies, sophomore Emily Lane (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) paved the way over the 6K layout, turning in a team-best effort of 27:09 (223rd). Junior Katie Page (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) finished second on the Fitchburg State squad with a time of 27:52, while classmate Kara Reynolds (Agawam, Mass./Pioneer Valley)  added a strong pace of 30:56. Senior Erin Abbott (Warwick, Mass./Pioneer Valley) concluded her Falcon cross country career with at time of 31:04, while and sophomore Rebecca True (Rutland, Mass./Wachusett Regional) and junior Katy Scott (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug) rounded out the Falcon women's competitors.
