Fitchburg State Takes Second At Worcester City Meet

Kibler post top individual men's performance to spark Falcons finish

WORCESTER, Mass. (September 25, 2010) –The Fitchburg State men's and women's cross country teams traveled to Worcester, Mass. this afternoon as they competed in the Worcester City Meet. The men finished second overall with 47 points, while the women placed fourth with 99 points.

Junior Chris Kibler (Bath, Maine/Morse) registered the top individual performance of the afternoon, earning All-Star honors with a first place finish. Kibler topped all competitors, completing the five mile course in a time of 28:30.3.

Senior Matt Spano (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) and sophomore Mike Grasela (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) also garnered All-Star accolades with a pair of top ten finishes, posting times of 29:34 and 30:33 respectively. Freshman  Chris Ross (Brookfield, Mass./Tantasqua Regional) turned in a fourth place finish with a time of 31:34, while sophomore Pat Lucas (North Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan) cracked the Fitchburg State top five with a 26th place finish and time of 31:49.

Sophomore Emily Lane (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) represented the Fitchburg State women in the All-Star honors, placing tenth overall with a time 22:22.4. Junior Katelyn Page (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) was also strong for the Falcons, turning in a 14th place showing with a  time of 23:37, while classmate Katy Scott (Wilbraham, Mass./Wilbraham) finished third on the squad with a 26:14 effort. Senior Erin Abbott (Warwick, Mass./Pioneer Valley) added a time of 26:58 on the afternoon, while junior Lias Dias (Rehoboth, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth) rounded out the top five with a time of 27:01.

Fitchburg State will be back in action again next Saturday as it competes in the All-New England Meet at Franklin Park starting at 11 a.m.
