Steve Baldassare - 2002 Inductee

One could mention Steve Baldassare's name as one of the best athletes in the history of Fitchburg State. Baldassare enjoyed tremendous success in two sports while wearing the Green and Gold in the mid-1990's. He was a standout hockey player for coach Dean Fuller during his winters at FSC and proved to be one of the finest baseball players in school history under head coach John McGuirk during the springtime.

Baldassare emerged as a star hockey player during his sophomore campaign. He scored 13 goals and added 19 assists for a team that captured the ECAC North-South-Central title. Baldassare played a major role in the title game as he scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in a 6-3 win over UMass-Dartmouth. During his junior season, he tallied 28 goals and 34 assists en route to being named All-ECAC North and All-MASCAC. The Falcons enjoyed their best regular season in school history as they went 22-5-1 and sported a 16-0 conference record. Baldassare finished his hockey career in style as he helped FSC to its second ECAC crown in three years during his senior season. He collected 28 goals and 19 assists and was honored with repeat selections on the All-ECAC, All-MASCAC and New England College Hockey Writers all-star teams.

After hockey season ended, Baldassare would turn his attention from the hockey rink to the baseball diamond. His sophomore season saw the Falcons finish second in the rugged Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference. He earned first team All-MASCAC honors as the Falcons posted their best finish ever in conference play. After being named second team All-MASCAC as a junior in 1995, Baldassare posted his best season on the diamond as a senior. In addition to being named first team All-MASCAC, he was named to the NEIBA All-New England first team and was the first FSC player to be selected to play in the New England College All-Star game.
