Fitchburg State Baseball Earns ECAC Championship Bid

Falcons to visit Salve Regina University, Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m.

FITCHBURG, Mass. (May 6, 2014) – The Fitchburg State baseball team will be competing in the 2014 ECAC Baseball Championships, earning the seventh seed, as announced by the ECAC central offices Tuesday evening.

The seventh-seeded Falcons will be visiting the second-seeded Seahawks of Salve Regina University on Wednesday afternoon at 4p .m. The tournament is an eight-team field with a quarterfinal round followed by a semifinal and championship round.

Fitchburg State enters the tournament coming off one of the most successful seasons at the University. The Falcons notched an overall record of 22-17, earning the second most wins in program history, while also qualifying for the 2014 MASCAC Baseball Tournament for the first time in nearly ten years.

The ECAC Tournament will feature first round action between top-seeded Roger Williams (24-16) and eighth-seeded Becker College (20-17) at 3 p.m. while no. 3 Suffolk University (21-13) plays Lasell College (18-13) at a time to be determined. Springfield College (20-15) will take on Framingham State at 3:30 p.m. in the No. 4/No. 5 match-up at Springfield.

The winner of Roger Williams/Becker will face the winner of Springfield/Framingham State in one semifinal and the winner of Salve Regina/Fitchburg State and the winner of Suffolk/Lasell in the other semifinal. The semifinal winners will meet Sunday, May 11 at a time to be determined for the championship at the same site.

No. 7 Fitchburg State University (22-17) at No. 2 Salve Regina University (24-16), 4 p.m.

No. 5 Framingham State University (20-18) at No. 4 Springfield College (20-15), 3:30 p.m.

Semifinals – Saturday, May 10 at Highest Remaining Seed
