MASCAC Football All-Conference Teams Announced

Kenny selected MASCAC Defensive Rookie Of The Year

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Four members of the Fitchburg State University football team collected Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) post-season accolades as announced by the conference office on Thursday afternoon.

Freshman defensive lineman Samuel Kenny (South Yarmouth, Mass.) led all Fitchburg State honorees after being named MASCAC Defensive Rookie of the Year. The first-year Falcon witnessed a stellar rookie campaign, ranking fourth on the team with 44 tackles (27 solo, 17 assisted), 7.5 sacks, 8.5 TFL's, one fumble recovered and one kick blocked.

Senior defensive back Jovon White (Meriden, Conn.), sophomore defensive tackle Caleb Gonsalves (Mashpee, Mass.) and senior running Sterlin Garvin (Canton, Mass.) were named to the 2018 MASCAC Football All-Conference second team in addition to Kenny's major award.

White anchored the Falcons defense, finishing second on the squad with 51 total tackles (41 solo, ten assisted), two interceptions, five pass break ups and two kicks blocked, while Gonsalves added 49 tackles (38 solo, 11 assisted), two sacks, one fumble recovery, one pass defended, one kick block and a team-leading 11 TFL's.

Joining White and Gonsalves on the MASCAC All-Conference second team was Garvin, who finished his senior season, registering 1,055 rushing yards on 184 carries and ten touchdowns, while adding five catches for 38 yards on the season.

The Fitchburg State football team recently concluded its 2018 campaign with an overall record of 2-8 and a 2-6 mark in conference play.
