MASCAC Football Pre-Season Poll Announced

Falcons collect 19 points in 2019 MASCAC Pre-Season Poll

FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State football team was recently picked seventh overall in the 2019 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) pre-season football poll as announced by the conference office this afternoon.

Framingham State was selected as favorite to capture the 2019 MASCAC football title in a vote of the league's coaches, capturing seven of the nine first place votes to obtain 63 points. Following close behind Framingham State was Western Connecticut State with two first place votes for 53 points, while Bridgewater State placed third overall with 50 points.

Plymouth State followed in the fourth spot with 44 points,, while UMass Dartmouth finished in fifth with 40  points. Westfield State landed in the sixth spot with 26 points, while Fitchburg State was next, ranking seventh with a total of 19 points. Mass. Maritime and Worcester State rounded out the 2019 MASCAC football preseason poll in eighth and ninth with 16 points and 13 points respectively.

The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation's oldest Division III men's and women's playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success, while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of football and men's ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in football beginning in 2013.

The Fitchburg State football team will kick-off the 2019 season on Saturday, September 7th as it hosts travels to Cortland State to take on the Red Dragons at the SUNY Cortland Stadium for a contest starting at 12 p.m.
