Ta. Van Ahnen totals nine saves in Falcon setback

KEENE, N.H. (October 25, 2008) - The Fitchburg State field hockey team suffered its third consecutive setback, falling 5-0 to Keene State College in Little East Conference action this afternoon.

Junior Carly Benning (Brewster, Mass./Nauset Regional) led the Keene State attack with a game-high six points on three goals scored, while senior back Alyssa Rowell (Queensbury, N.Y./Glens Falls) totaled five points on two scores and one helper. Junior Erin Dallas (Marlow, N.H./Keene) was also solid with two assists in the contest.

Keene State opened the scoring just seven minutes into the contest, as Rowell deposited her first score of the game off a Dallas assist. The Owls added another score moments later as Benning netted her first goal of the game to close out the first half scoring.

In the second half, Benning exploded for back-to-back goals to lead the Keene State scoring surge, while Rowell connected for her second score of the match. Benning struck first with consecutive scores in a 4:45 span to the give the Owls a 4-0 advantage while Rowell added her tenth goal of the season to secure the victory.

Keene State out-shot Fitchburg State 21-3 in the match, while posting an 11-1 advantage in corner attempts. Sophomore goaltender Taylor Van Ahnen (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) notched nine saves for the Falcons, while sophomore Meghan Ledoux (Standish, Maine/Bonny Eagle) stopped one shot for the Owls.

Fitchburg State (7-9, 4-6 LEC) will be in action again next Saturday as it travels to Southern Maine University at 1 p.m. for its final regular season contest. Keene State (14-4, 10-0 LEC) will travel to Smith College on Thursday at 6 p.m.
