Byler Earns Little East All-Conference Nomination

Belleville, Penn. native earns first collegiate All-Conference honor

FITCHBURG, Mass. (November 13, 2008) - Freshman Saralyn Byler (Belleville, Penn./Belleville) represented the Fitchburg State field hockey team as she was named to the 2008 Little East Conference All-Conference second team by the conference's coaches this past weekend.

This season, Byler was a vital part of the Falcons defensive squad, starting all 17 games at the back position. Byler led Fitchburg State with seven defensive saves while aiding a Falcons defensive line that held opponents to only 2.10 goals per game.

Byler, a standout newcomer among the Falcons defense, notched a game-saving defensive save to help lift Fitchburg State to a 1-0 victory over Framingham State (10/7). She also posted a season-high three defensive saves in a 2-1 setback to Salve Regina University (10/14).

Fitchburg State concluded its season with an overall record of 7-10 and a 4-7 mark in the Little East Conference.  The Falcons were edged by Bridgewater State for the final spot in the LEC Tournament.
