Fitchburg State Rolls Past Framingham State, 4-0

Jacobs and Kelley combine for seven points in Falcons third LEC victory

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (October 1, 2011) – The Fitchburg State field hockey team used three first half goals to roll to a 4-0 victory over Framingham State University in Little East Conference (LEC) action this afternoon. 

With the win, the Falcons improve to 6-4 on the year and 3-2 and in the Little East, while the Rams fall to 3-7 overall and 1-4 in the conference.

Senior forward Megan Jacobs (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton) tallied two goals for the Falcons, while junior forward Jamie Kelley (Pepperell, Mass./North Middlesex) picked up a goal and an assist.

Jacobs scored the game winner on a penalty corner off a feed from Kelley just over 14 minutes into the game and less than four minutes later she added her second of the game – an unassisted goal - to push the lead to 2-0. 

Senior midfielder Mari Roma (Foxborough, Mass./Foxborough) extended the Falcons lead to 3-0 in the 25th minute when she blasted a shot into the back of the cage from the top of the circle. Kelley added her goal in the 60th minute, using an assist from sophomore Rebecca Bush (Littleton, Mass./Littleton) to reach the final margin of 4-0.

The Falcons outshot the Rams 22-7 in the game and held a 10-8 advantage in penalty corners. Senior Taylor Begin (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) made four saves en route to the win in the cage for the Falcons, while junior Sarah Ryan (Uxbridge, Mass.) made ten stops for the Rams in a losing effort.

Fitchburg State (6-4, 3-2 LEC) will be back in action on Tuesday as it hosts Westfield State at 7 p.m. Framingham State (3-7, 1-4 LEC) will visit Bridgewater State on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
