Falcons Notch Two All-Academic Honors

Finn and Silva named to the LEC All-Academic team

FITCHBURG, Mass. (November 9, 2012) – Senior Kelly Finn (Fitchburg, Mass./Saint Bernards) and sophomore Kaitlyn Silva (West Townsend, Mass./North Middlesex) were recently named to the 2012 Little East Conference All-Academic team as announced by the league office Thursday evening.

Members of the 2012 LEC All-Academic team must achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher through the 2012 spring semester and be at least a sophomore academically and athletically. The student-athlete must also be a full-time member of a varsity sport and be enrolled in its institution for a full academic year.

Finn, a three-year member of the Fitchburg State field hockey team, achieved a grade point average of 3.43 with a major in Psychology, while Silva earned her first nomination with a GPA of 3.78 in the field of Elementary Education.

This season, Finn anchored the Fitchburg State backline, limiting opponents to a 3.43 goals against average over 18 contests. In a breakout senior season, the veteran midfielder also added a team leading eight defensive stops and one assist for the Falcons.

On the offensive side of the ball, Silva aided the Falcons, totaling five points with one tally and three helpers. The sophomore forward also ranked fourth on the team with 25 shots on target, while seeing action in 17 games.

The Fitchburg State field hockey team concluded its 2012 campaign with an overall record of 7-11 and a 3-8 mark in the LEC.
