UMass Dartmouth Breezes Past Fitchburg State, 10-0

Valentin registers 11 saves for the Falcons

FITCHBURG, Mass. (October 17, 2012) – Senior Jenna Miedzionowski (Beverly, Mass./Hamilton-Wenham) collected a hat trick, as Umass Dartmouth defeated Fitchburg State, 10-0 in Little East Conference field hockey action at Elliot Field this evening.

UMass Dartmouth raced out to a quick lead just 3:07 into the opening frame as Miedzionowski blasted a shot from the top of the circle for her first marker of the contest. Junior Victoria Dolce (Jamestown, R.I./North Kingstown) inbounded the ball off a penalty corner to Miedzionowski for the 1-0 advantage.

The Corsairs doubled their lead (2-0) less than a minute later when freshman Cory Connolly (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) found the back of the cage for her eight goal of the season. The freshman forward took a feed from senior Erica Allan (Amherst, Mass./Amherst) and slipped the ball inside the far post. Before Miedzionowski capped the first half scoring with back-to-back scores to take a 6-0 lead at the break.

In the second period, The Corsairs sealed their victory with four more tallies from Allan, freshman Alison Ladue (Bridgewater, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham) and a pair of markers from freshmen Jill Levrault (Somerset, Mass./Somerset).

Throughout the match, UMass Dartmouth out shot Fitchburg State 31-11, while limiting the Falcons to just five penalty corners. In the cage, freshman Judith Valentin (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) made 11 stops in 58 minutes of action for Fitchburg State, while junior Lauren O'Brien (Rochester, Mass./Old Rochester) collected eight saves in the complete game effort for UMass Dartmouth.

Fitchburg State (5-9, 2-7 LEC) will be back in action on Saturday as it travels to the University of Southern Maine for a contest starting at 12 p.m. UMass Dartmouth (11-5, 9-0 LEC) will host Keene State College on Saturday at 4 p.m.
