Fitchburg State Falls to Framingham State, 4-0

Valentin registers six stops for the Falcons

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (October 5, 2013) – Senior forward Kaitlyn Ranieri (Bellingham, Mass.) totaled five points on two scores and one helper as the Framingham State field hockey team defeated Fitchburg State, 4-0 in Little East Conference (LEC) action this afternoon at Maple Street Field.

In the opening stanza, Framingham State raced out to a quick lead just 1:17 into the contest as Ranieri connected for her eighth tally of the season. The senior forward dribbled around the defense and tucked the ball into the back of the cage for the 1-0 advantage.

The Rams doubled their lead (2-0) less than three and half minutes later when sophomore midfielder Cady Kelly (Canton, Mass.) collected a feed from Ranieri and blasted a shot inside the near post for her team-best ninth marker on the season.

Fitchburg State nearly broke its scoring silence in the 21st minute of play as freshman forward Julia Pecoraro (Yarmouth Port, Mass.) and classmate Madeline Hoffman (Mansfield, Mass.) both had quality shots on goal but Framingham State net-minder Sarah Palace (Auburn, Mass.) turned away both attempts to preserve the Rams two goal advantage. The hosts capped the first half scoring in the 26th minute of play when junior Rhea Urbaniak (Chelmsford, Mass.) struck for her second goal of the season off an assist from sophomore Alina Willing (Natick, Mass.) for the 3-0 lead going into the break.

In the second half, Framingham State sealed their seventh victory of the season at the 51:47 mark as Ranieri fired a shot from just inside the circle into the cage for her second marker of the contest, resulting in the 4-0 final.

Throughout the match, Framingham State controlled the offensive front, outshooting Fitchburg State by a 15-3 margin, while limiting the Falcons to three penalty corners. In the cage, sophomore Judith Valentin (Brockton, Mass.) posted five stops for Fitchburg State in 62:20 minutes of action, while Palace made three saves for the Rams in the complete game effort.
