Chargers Race Past Falcons

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University field hockey team fell to the visiting Chargers of Colby- Sawyer College 3-1 in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Elliot Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Colby-Sawyer netted the only goal of the first half when sophomore Julial Lanctot (Sandown, NH) created her own scoring opportunity posting an unassisted score just 10:39 into the frame. The Chargers double their lead on senior Jordan Teixeira's (Exeter, NH) second goal of the season midway through the second half.

The Green and Gold cut the deficit in half just over a minute later as junior Aislinn DeHorsey (Leominster, Mass.) receive a pass off a corner before guiding her shot to the back of the cage.

The visitors tallied an insurance marker off the stick of junior Rachel Fisher (Lynn, Mass.) for the 3-1 final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Colby-Sawyer held the advantage in shots (18-3) and corners (10-2) over the Falcons.

This afternoon's contest marks the third meeting between the two schools on the field hockey field with the Falcons currently 2-1 all-time when taking on the Chargers.

Fitchburg State had won the first two match ups with Colby-Sawyer, including a 2-1 double overtime win last season at Elliot Field.

Sophomore Abby Ladd (Colchester, Vt) had two saves for her third victory of the season. Freshman Abby Bryant (Ware, Mass.) posted 10 saves in 62:55 minutes of action in the loss.

Fitchburg State starts Little East Conference play on Friday night when they host Worcester State at 7:00PM. Colby-Sawyer returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Lasell College for a noontime start.
