Gladu nets two goals in win

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University field hockey team scored a 3-1 win over the Warriors of Eastern Connecticut State University in Little East Conference action on a cold and rainy Saturday morning at Elliot Field.

The Basics:
Score:
Fitchburg State University 3, Eastern Connecticut State 1
Records: Fitchburg State University (8-6, 5-3 LEC), Eastern Connecticut State (4-7, 4-5 LEC)

How It Happened

The Falcons tipped the twine just 3:42 into the game for an early 1-0 lead. Sophomore Chloe Gladu (North Reading, Mass.) picked a rebound off the pads of Warriors netminder Keira Integlia (Branford, Conn.) for her second goal of the season.

The Warriors knotted the score late in the first half when Khiara Valentine (Morristown, NJ) made and initial rush and drove a goal inside the far corner past Falcons goaltender Abby Bryant (Ware, Mass.) for the 1-1 score.

The Green and Gold wasted little time breaking the stalemate in the second half. With heavy offensive pressure, senior Maggie Gallagher (North Attleboro, Mass.) made a sweet cross pass across the goalmouth that freshman Emma Barnaby (Leominster, Mass.) tucked under the sprawling goalie.

Gladu added an insurance goal for the Falcons, with 10 minutes to play in the second stanza. The midfielder tipped a shot from junior Olivia Grant (Portsmouth, NH) off a set-corner play for her second goal of the game and the 3-1 final.
