Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University field hockey team powered past the Owls of Westfield State, 3-0 in Little East Conference (LEC) action on Friday evening at Elliot Field.

How it Happened

The Falcons netted two goals in the first nine minute to take a quick lead. Sophomore Nicole Tocco (Gloucester, Mass) tallied the first goal sweeping a cross pass into an open weak side corner. Just three minutes later junior Aislinn DeHorsey (Leominster, Mass.) doubled the lead depositing her ninth goal of the season.

The Green and Gold finished off the first frame when senior Molly Richard (Leominster, Mass) potted her team leading 13th goal off a corner set, DeHorsey garnered an assist on the play.

The teams played a scoreless second half with Fitchburg having most of the offensive momentum. The Hosts had eight shots and six corners in the stanza.

Inside the Numbers

  • In a pre-game ceremony the Falcons honored seniors: Molly Richard, Maggie Gallagher (North Attleboro, Mass), Alanah Pachecho (Assonet, Mass.), and Elizabeth McNiff (Leominster, Mass.)
  • Freshman Abby Bryant (Ware, Mass.) posted five saves to earn the shutout, while Riley Goulet (Marion, Mass.) posted seven saves in the loss.
  • Fitchburg held the advantage in shots (14-12) and both teams had eight corner in the game.
  • Molly Richard scored her 54th career goal, she needs one goal to tie the career all-time record.
