Lamprey makes 15 saves in LEC setback 

Fitchburg Mass. – The Fitchburg State University field hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision to the Panthers of Plymouth State University this morning in Little East Conference (LEC) action from Elliot Field.

How It Happened

Plymouth State grabbed a 1-0 lead at the 11:39 mark as sophomore forward Jess Mezquita (Atkinson, N.H.) gathered a feed from classmate Natalie Perry (Conway, N.H.) and fired a shot inside the near post for her second goal on the season.

The Panthers doubled their margin three minutes later when Mezquita netted her second marker of the contest as the sophomore forward collected a loose ball in front of the net and deposited the ball into the back of the net.

Plymouth State upped its advantage late in the second quarter with sophomore Kylie Ham (Wayland, Mass.)  redirecting a shot into the cage for her first tally of the 2019 season off an assist from junior Kate McPherson (Holderness, N.H.) for the 3-0 edge going into the break.

Neither team would be able to find the back of the net in the second half as the Panthers held on for the 3-0 final.

Inside the Numbers

This morning's contest will mark the 22nd meeting between the two teams in the sport o field hockey with the Falcons 5-17 all-time when taking on the Panthers

The teams have split the previous six matchups (3-3) with the Falcons securing a 1-0 triumph last season at the Kent School

Plymouth State held a 23-3 advantage in shots, while also holding a 7-4 edge in penalty corners

Freshman Colleen Lamprey (Cherry Valley, Mass.) stopped 15 shots for Fitchburg State in the setback

Sophomore Meaghan Allard (Amherst, N.H.) went untested in the complete game victory for Plymouth State

Freshman Sophia Morse (West Bridgewater, Mass.) made one defensive save for the Green and Gold

Falcons will travel to Western Connecticut State on Wednesday to take on the Colonials for an LEC matchup, starting at 7:00 PM. Panthers will visit the University of Southern Maine on the same date for a conference tilt at 7:00 PM.
