McGrath collects 45 saves in MASCAC draw
Framingham, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University ice hockey team skated to a 1-1 overtime draw with the Rams of Framingham State this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at the Loring Arena.

How It Happened
Fitchburg State took the lead at the 6:14 mark of the first period as sophomore forward Sascha Figi (Kloten, Switzerland) gathered a feed from juniors Nick DiNicola (Wolcott, Conn.) and Christopher Vicario (Cranston, R.I.) and found the back of the net for his fifth tally of the season for the 1-0 lead.
Framingham State knotted the score (1-1) minutes later when freshman forward Bryan Whelan (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) struck for his second tally on the year off assists from junior Brendan Williams (Richmond, Va.) and sophomore Michael Gennello (East Windsor, N.Y.).
With the score 1-1 in the third period, the Falcons nearly broke the deadlock late in the frame as senior Brandon Ecklund (Fitchburg, Mass.) and junior Dean Zerby (Harrisburg, Penn.) put back-to-back shots on frame, but Rams keeper Adam Calabrese (Philadelphia, Penn.) denied both shots to send the game into overtime.
In the extra frame, each time had a quality scoring chance with Vicario firing a shot on target for Fitchburg State, while sophomore Walker Hamilton (Anchorage, Alaska) had the best scoring chance for Framingham State but neither team was able to dent the scoreboard, resulting in the 1-1 overtime final.
