Figi Collects All-New England Honors

Kloten, Switzerland native selected to NE DII/III Men's Ice Hockey All-Star Team

Fitchburg, Mass. – Fitchburg State sophomore forward Sascha Figi (Kloten, Switzerland) was recently selected to the 2018-19 New England DII/III Men's Ice Hockey All-Star Team as announced by the New England Hockey Writers Association.

The second-year Falcon posted a conference best 46 points on 25 goals and 21 helpers in addition to 12 power-play tallies and a pair of game winning scores in 26 contests for the Green and Gold. For his efforts Figi was also named Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Ice Hockey Player of the Year as well as earning MASCAC All-Conference First Team honors. Sascha was also recently named a 2018-19 CCM/AHCA DII/II Third Team East All-American.

The New England Hockey Writers Association will recognize 20 individuals from the region's 40 Division 2-3 NCAA ice hockey programs when it hosts its annual dinner on April 17. Wesleyan and the University of New England top the list of honorees with three All-Stars each, along with Coach of the Year Chris Potter of Wesleyan and Player of the Year Brady Fleurent of UNE Player of the Year.

Longtime TD Garden executive and legendary supporter of amateur hockey Steve Nazro will receive the Parker-York Award for lifetime contribution to amateur hockey in New England, the highest honor bestowed by the New England Hockey Writers Association.

In addition to these N.E. Hockey Writers' awards, the April 17 dinner at the Prince Restaurant in Saugus, MA, will feature the presentation of the Gridiron Club of Boston's Walter Brown and Joe Concannon awards, the J. Thom Lawler Award given by the Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Ice Hockey Officials Association and All-Star recognition for other divisions of college hockey in New England.   

Fitchurg State concluded the 2018-19 season with an overall record of 12-12-2 and a 9-7-2 mark in conference play, en-route to capturing the fifth seed in the MASCAC Ice Hockey Post-Season tournament
