Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State men's ice hockey team cruised to a 7-0 victory over the Hawks of Becker College in non-conference action at the Wallace Civic Center.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State grabbed the lead at the 3:16 mark of the first period as sophomore Ryan Murphy (Wayzata, Minn.) intercepted a Hawks defensive pass and tucked in his ninth goal of the season for the 1-0 lead. Next freshman Hunter Fortin (Westerville, Ohio) doubled the lead as he collected a pass and deposited a wrist shot past the Becker netminder. Just nine seconds later Joshua Miller (Saint Augustine, Fla.) found a streaking Christopher Vicario (Cranston, RI) for a 3-0 margin. Sophomore Mitch El-Wailli (New Prague, Minn.) notched his first tally of the season for a 4-0 advantage after one frame.

In the second stanza, the Green and Gold added a pair of goals. First sophomore Jordin Holmes (Willow Grove, Penn.) notched his first goal of the season and 64 seconds later first year Trent Shanley (Hillsdale, NJ) converted a pass from Kevin Perry (Hull, Mass.) for a 6-0 score.

Ryan Murphy closed out the scoring in the third period with his tenth of the season and the 7-0 final.

  • Fitchburg State finished 0-for-2 with the man advantage, while Becker was 0-for-4 on the power-play
  • Junior Brian McGrath (Worcester, Mass.) stopped 33 shots for the Falcons for the shutout and his sixth win of the season
  • Senior Cody Foster (Sagus, CA) made nine saves in 13:30 minutes of action, senior Grant Martins (Bloomington, MA) posted 30 saves in relief for the Hawks
