Falcons Soar Past Rams, 7-1

Glover nets pair of tallies for Fitchburg State in MASCAC triumph

Framingham, Mass. – The Fitchburg State ice hockey team defeated the Rams of Framingham State, 7-1 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this evening from the Loring Arena.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State grabbed the lead 2:28 into the first period when sophomore Jordin Holmes (Willow Grove, Penn.) collected a feed from freshman Wyatt Wilmshurst (Massena, N.Y.) and classmate Gene Bouthiette (Enfield, Conn.) and struck for his second tally on the season for the 1-0 advantage.

The Green and Gold upped their margin (2-0) four minutes later as Wilmshurst connected on his fifth marker of the year off an assist from senior Christopher Vicario (Cranston, R.I.). Framingham State cut the lead to 3-1 midway through the period with junior Jack Pierson (Northville, Mich.) netted his third score of the 2019-20 campaign.

The visitors upped their margin as junior Brian Glover (Baldwinville, Mass.) connected on back-to-back power-play scores in the span of six minutes. Glover notched is first score of the contest with six minutes left in the frame before notching his second tally of the evening at the 18:02 mark to make the score 4-1.

In the middle stanza, Fitchburg State extended their lead at the 11:14 mark when newcomer Trent Shanley (Hillsdale, N.J.) deposited the puck inside the near post for his fourth goal of the year for the 5-1 edge.

The Falcons added to its lead with just under two minutes left in the second period with freshman Rece Bergeman (Newark, Del.) notched his fourth goal on the season off an assist from fellow freshman Hunter Fortin (Westerville, Ohio) for the 6-1 advantage.

The Green and Gold secured the victory with newcomer Anthony Ceolin (Simsbury, Conn.) notched his sixth goal of the campaign at the 6:25 mark of the third period off an assist from classmate Adam Kusior (Tecumseh, Ont.), resulting in the 7-1 final.
