Bridgewater State Nips Fitchburg State, 1-0
Carey leads Falcons defensively with six saves
FITCHBURG, Mass. (October 4, 2008) - The Fitchburg State men's soccer team suffered a tough 1-0 setback to Bridgewater State College in Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference this evening at Elliot Field.
Bridgewater State junior Peter Wahlgren (Shrewsbury, Mass./Algonquin Regional) scored the lone goal of the match for the Bears, while Donald Flores (Cranston, R.I./Cranston East) notched an assist.
Bridgewater State connected early in the first half as Wahlgren tallied his second goal of the season in the 17th minute off a dish from Flores. With the score, the Bears improved to 7-1-2 on the season with a 2-0-1 record in the MASCAC.
Fitchburg State dominated both halves, out-shooting Bridgewater State 18-13 in the match, including a 10-6 advantage in the first frame. Junior goaltender Matt Carey (Stratford, Conn./Stratford) collected six saves for the Falcons despite the loss, while senior Ryan Seifert (Ludlow, Mass./East Longmeadow) stopped ten shots for the Bears.
Fitchburg State (4-6, 0-3 MASCAC) is back in action on Saturday as it travels to Westfield State College at 12 p.m. Bridgewater State (7-1-2, 2-0-1 MASCAC ) will host Johnson and Wales University on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
