Ventura Named Player Of The Week

Westminster, Mass. native earns first conference honor of season

FITCHBURG, Mass. (September 15, 2008) - Fitchburg State sophomore Lionso Ventura (Westminster, Mass./Oakmont) was named the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Player of the Week in men's soccer for his solid play this week. This nomination is Ventura's first of the 2008 season.

In a 2-0 week for Fitchburg State, Ventura led the Falcons with six points on three goals. He netted both goals in the Falcons' 2-1 victory over UMass Dartmouth on Saturday and connected for one goal in a 6-2 victory over Newbury College on Wednesday.

This season, Ventura has appeared in all five games for Fitchburg State. He currently ranks first on the team in scoring with eight points on four goals, while leading the offensive attack with 14 shots, a .286 shot percentage and one game-winning goal.

Fitchburg State (4-1, 0-0 MASCAC) will be back in action on Saturday as it travels to Worcester State College at 3 p.m.
