TCNJ Tops Fitchburg State 4-1

Bolam leads Falcons offense with first goal of the season

KEENE, N.H. (September 4, 2011) – The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) scored two goals in each half to cruise to a 4-1 victory over Fitchburg State University in the XARA Classic/making Strides Against Breast Cancer Men's Soccer Tournament this afternoon.

TCNJ (1-1), which lost to host Keene State College 1-0 in double-overtime on Saturday, notched its first win of the season, while Fitchburg State fell to 0-2 on the year.

The College of New Jersey bombarded the Falcons net with multiple quality shots before finally cashing in with two first half goals. Sophomore Sean Casey (Toms River, N.J.) found senior Luigi Morielo (Ewing, N.J.) for the Lions first goal of the game in the 18th minute, while Michael Recchia (Wayside, N.J.) made it a 2-0 game just 15 minutes later when he converted a crossing ball from classmate Dan Constants (Wayne, N.J.).

The Lions added two more goals early in the second half to secure their victory as senior  senior Chris Pisano (Metuchen, N.J.) and junior Taylor Gregory (Sea Girt, N.J.) both found the back of the net. Fitchburg State ended its scoring drought late in the second half as senior Danny Bolam (East Fairfield, Vt./BFA Airfax) scored on a penalty kick following sophomore Carmen Bordonaro (Saugus, Mass./Saugus) penalty draw inside the box.

For the contest, the Lions controlled the temp, posting a wide, 33-0 advantage in shots and 9-1 margin in corner attempts. Junior Aaron Utman (Hopewell, N.J.) and junior Adam Friedman (Chester, N.J.) each played a half in goal for TCNJ, finishing the game with two combined saves, while freshman Aidan Hanratty (E. Bridgewater, Mass./E. Bridgewater) had a busy day in goal for the Falcons, stopping 11 shots in the loss.

Fitchburg State (0-2, 0-0 MASCAC) will be back in action on Wednesday as it travels to Eastern Connecticut State University at 7 p.m.
