Fitchburg State And Mass-Maritime Battle To 0-0 Draw (2 OT)

Hanratty totals 13 saves, including four overtime stops in MASCAC draw

FITCHBURG, Mass. (September 28, 2013) – Junior Aidan Hanratty (East Bridgewater, Mass.) made 13 saves, including four in the two overtime periods to lead Fitchburg State to a scoreless draw with Mass-Maritime Academy in MASCAC men's soccer action this morning at Elliot Field.

The Falcons even their record on the season at 4-4-2 and 1-0-1 MASCAC despite being out-shot  15-5 margin over the final 65 minutes of action. The visiting Bucs continued their best start ever to a season with a now 5-0-2 mark and a 1-0-1 clip in the league.

Hanratty kept the contest scoreless with a pair of point blank stops on shots by Mass-Maritime senior Asa Mills (Westport, Mass.) in the first extra session, while Fitchburg State had a chance to post the victory in the final 10 seconds of regulation with a James David (Haverhill, Mass.) bid that was snagged by Buccaneer keeper Joe Cohen (Plymouth, Mass.).

Cohen collected his second tie to go with three wins with a pair of stops over the final 65 minutes of play for the Bucs, while fellow freshman Thomas Funkhauser (Purcellville, Va.) made three first half saves for the visitors. 

Hanratty made nine saves in regulation (six in the first 45 minutes of action) in recording the draw for Fitchburg State, as the Buccaneers outshot the Falcons by a 24-14 margin overall (13-5 on target) and held a 9-3 edge in corners for the contest.

Fitchburg State will be back in action next Saturday as it visits MCLA on Saturday at 1 p.m. Mass-Maritime will host Salve Regina on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
