MASCAC Pre-Season Men’s Soccer Poll Announced

Falcons collect 19 points for sixth pick overall

FITCHBURG, Mass. (August 21, 2013) –The Fitchburg State men's soccer team was recently selected sixth overall with 19 points in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) pre-season men's soccer poll.

Salem State, which claimed the conference regular season title last fall, captured four first place votes for 58 points and top last year's tournament champion Westfield State's total of 53 points (three first place votes).

Framingham State finished third with 49 points, while Bridgewater State and Worcester State followed in fourth and fifth place with 43 and 30 points, respectively. Massachusetts Maritime and Fitchburg State notched a tie in sixth place with 19 points, while MCLA rounded out the poll with 17 points.

The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation's oldest Division III men's and women's playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of football and men's ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University will join the conference as an affiliate member in football beginning in 2013-14.

The Fitchburg State men's soccer team will kick off its 2013 season on Saturday August 31st as it battles UMass Boston in the Lasell College Tournament at 2:30 p.m.
