Falcons Fall to RWU 2-0 in Season Opener

BRISTOL, RI - Fitchburg State University was defeated in their first campaign of the 2015 season by host Roger Williams University by a score of 2-0, in the RWU Squad Locker Classic on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Connor Smith faced 17 shots in net for the Green & Gold in his collegiate debut, while making four saves in the losing effort.

The Hawks tallied their first of two goals 17 minutes into the contest when James Sheldon found the back of the net on a shot from the 50 yard line. Less than a minute later Roger Williams doubled their lead on an unassisted marker by Sean Janson, in what would be the final goal of the contest.

Fitchburg State was held to a mere six shots in the loss, as Josh Hofer and Mauro Gimenez were the only Falcons to register a shot on net.

RWU's keeper Carsten Fredrickson picked up his second win of the season in the clean sheet victory, while making two stops

The Falcons will be back on the pitch tomorrow in Bristol as they take on Salve Regina at 1:30 pm.
