Krikorian's Late Goal Secures 2-1 Victory for Men's Soccer

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's soccer team tallied the game-winner with just seven seconds remaining to edge the visiting Nighthawks of Newbury College 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action on Alumni Field.

The Basics

Score: Fitchburg State University 2, Newbury College 1
Records: Fitchburg State University (4-3) | Newbury College (3-7)

How It Happened

The Nightawks jumped on the board in the first frame with a late goal from senior Kevin Teixeira (Boston, Mass.) as the forward corralled a free ball past Falcons goaltender Branton Abbett (Jasper, Ind.) into the left corner.

After intermission, the Falcons wasted little time knotting the score at 1-1. Senior Jared Burns (East Bridgewater, Mass.) collected a loose ball ten yards out and deposited his first goal of the season in the 50th minute.

Seemingly headed into overtime, the Falcons broke the deadlock with just seven ticks on the clock. After an initial shot from Daniel Wotton (Bellingham, Mass.) hit the right post, the ball popped out to wide open Matthew Krikorian (Groton, Mass.) for the game winner.

Inside the Numbers

Fitchburg held the edge in shots (18-6) and corners (10-1).

Abbett made three saves for his third win of the season, while his counterpart Jarod Smith posted seven saves in the loss.

Seventh meeting between two schools on the pitch with the Green and Gold 7-0-0 all-time when taking on the Nighthawks.
