Loyd nets pair of goals for Fitchburg State in conference victory

North Adams, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's soccer team defeated the Trailblazers of MCLA, 3-0 this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from Shewcraft Field.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State opened the scoring at the 11:55 mark as freshman Alexander Loyd (Kingston, Mass.) settled a feed from classmate Sebastian Pina (Somerville, Mass.) and deposited a shot into the back of the net for his team-leading fifth mark on the season for the 1-0 advantage.

MCLA nearly knotted the score late in the first half when freshman Wesley Call (Ashby, Mass.) fired a shot on frame, but Falcon keeper Branton Abbett (Jasper, Ind.) was able to corral the shot to preserve the 1-0 edge going into the break.

Following the break, the Falcons doubled their margin in the 57th minute of action with Loyd collecting a loose ball and dribbling in alone before tucking a shot inside the near post for his second tally of the contest to make the score 2-0.

The Green and Gold added an insurance tally at the 67:25 mark as Pina received a pass from senior Marckdonard Bastien (Worcester, Mass.) and slipped a shot into the right side of the net for his second goal on the season, resulting in the 3-0 final.
