Falcons Compete At 2019 Reggie Poyau Invite

McWhinnie-Armstead takes top honors in the high jump with DIII NE qualifying mark of 1.95m

Waltham, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's indoor track & field team returned to action this afternoon following the semester break as the Falcons placed sixth with a total of 35 points at the 2019 Reggie Poyau Invitational , hosted by Brandeis University.

How It Happened

Sophomore Christian McWhinnie-Armstead (Lowell, Mass.) paced the Falcons after placing first overall in the high jump with a DIII New England qualifying mark of 1.95 meters, while classmate Jacob Movsessian (New Ipswich, N.H.) turned in a second place time of 16:25.51 in the 5000 meter to qualify for MASCAC's.

In the 3000 meter, senior Joseph Darrigo (Tewksbury, Mass.) (9:06.39) and Movsessain (9:14.16) finished fourth and sixth respectively to both qualify for the post-season, while senior Austin Landress (Winchendon, Mass.) qualified for MASCAC's in the 600 meter with a fourth place time of 1:30.22.

Freshman Nicholas Sachetta (Billerica, Mass.) (2:03.72) and senior Ryan Stopka (Rochester, Mass.) (2:11.10) finished third and tenth in the 800 meter, while in the field, junior Wilkerson Pierre (Cambridge, Mass.) posted a pair of MASCAC qualifying marks in the long jump (5.42m) and the triple jump (11.72m) after placing ninth and sixth respectively.

In the shotput, senior Brendan Courtney (North Attleboro, Mass.) (12.80m) and classmate Cameron Stalters (Norton, Mass.) (11.81m) finished sixth and 11th to qualify for MASCAC's, while Courtney added a sixth place toss of 11.83 meters in the weight throw to round out the top Falcon performances on the afternoon.
