Falcons Shine At Wesleyan Invite

Pierre takes top honors in the triple jump with mark of 12.84 meters

Middletown, Conn. – The Fitchburg State University men's indoor track & field team returned to action this afternoon as the Falcons competed in the 2019 Wesleyan University Invitational at the Wesleyan Bacon Field House.

How It Happened

Junior Wilkerson Pierre (Cambridge, Mass.) led the way for the Falcons after earning top honors in the triple jump with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 12.84 meter as well as placing 14th in the long jump with a jump of 5.48m, while sophomore Asante Monteiro (Fall River, Mass.) turned in a third place finish in the 60 meter with time of 7.22 seconds. Junior Zachary Joseph (Hyde Park, Mass.) was also sollid for the Green and Gold, posting a seventh place finish in the 60 meter with a post-season qualifying time of 7.30 seconds.

In the 1000 meter, freshman Nicholas Sachetta (Billerica, Mass.) (2:48.74), sophomore Joe Weston (Middleton, Mass.) (2:57.41), sophomore Andrew Hill (Templeton, Mass.) (3:14.15) and junior Sam Kupperstein (Lincoln, Mass.) (3:19.65) all qualified for MASCAC's, placing 5th, 7th, 9th and tenth respectively, while senior Joseph Darrigo (Tewksbury, Mass.) turned in a post-season qualifying time of 9:13.39 in the 3000 meter with an eighth place effort.

The 4x400 meter relay team of freshman Michael Masterson (Pepperell, Mass.), sophomore Ryan Carter (Leominster, Mass.), sophomore Max Charles II (Medford, Mass.) and Monteiro finished third with a time of 3:44.20, while in the 800 meter, senior Ryan Stopka (Rochester, Mass.) and sophomore Ian Poyant (Acton, Maine) posted MASCAC qualifying times of 2:13.33 and 2:51.20.

In the mile, sophomore Timothy Sheehy (Wakefield, R.I.) (5th) and classmate Jacob Movsessian (New Ipswich, N.H.) (6th) posted MASCAC qualifying times of 4:42.07 and 4:45.32 respectively, while junior Zachary Buckland (Billerica, Mass.) notched a post-season qualifying mark of 1.75 meters in the triple jump.

In the high jump, senior Austin Landress (Winchendon, Mass.) (1.80m) and Buckland (1.75m) placed third and sixth to qualify for MASCAC's, while senior Cameron Stalters (Norton, Mass.) rounded out the top Falcon efforts for the Green and Gold with a seventh place mark of 3.65 meters in the pole vault.
