Falcons Open At Emmanuel Invitational

McWinnie-Armstead places first overall in the high jump with Open NE qualifying mark of 2.05 meters

Boston, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's outdoor track & field team opened up its 2019-20 season today, competing in the 2019-20 Emmanuel Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.

How It Happened

Junior Christian McWhinnie-Armstead (Lowell, Mass.) led the way for the Falcons, placing first in the high jump with an Open New England qualifying jump of 2.05 meters, while freshman Shaki Auston (Springfield, Mass.) and classmate Adam Digman (Winchendon, Mass.) placed sixth and seventh in the 60m hurdles with DIII NE qualifying times of 8.92 seconds and 8.95 respectively.

In the 800m, sophomore Trevor Fields (Shirley, Mass.) (2:01.24), classmate Nicholas Sachetta (Billerica, Mass.) (2:02.66) and freshman Joshua Atemkeng (Peabody, Mass.) (2:08.66) notched MASCAC qualifying marks, while junior Jacob Movsessian (New Ipswich, N.H.) and freshman Matthew Catarius (Shrewsbury, Mass.) placed fourth and 26th in the 5000 meter with times of 15:44.40 and 16:46.70.

Freshman Chris Morales (Lynn, Mass.) notched a post-season qualifying time of 54:13 in the 400 meter to finish 11th overall, while in the mile junior Andrew Hill (Templeton, Mass.) (5:16.29) and newcomer Tyssen LaBombard (Shelburne, Mass.) (5:21.01) placed 33rd and 36th.

In the field, freshmen Miguel Perez (Natick, Mass.) (6.15m) and Eric Shimiyimana (Worcester, Mass.) (5.44m) finished 11th and 17th in the long jump to qualify for MASCAC's, while in the triple jump, senior Wilkerson Pierre (Cambridge, Mass.) (12.35m) and newcomers Tamil Tate (Springfield, Mass.) (12.66m) and Benjamin Sacramone (Hubbardston, Mass.) (11.73m) placed eighth, ninth and 11th in the triple jump to all qualify for the post-season.

In the weight throw, freshman Beau Bernadeau (North Andover, Mass.) and classmate Joseph Asare (Brockton, Mass.) finished 24th and 27th with MASCAC qualifying tosses of 9.93 meters and 9.60 meter, while Bernadeau (2nd) and Asare (14th) added post-season qualifying tosses of 14.07m and 12.02m in the shot put.

Tate (11th) and Sacramone (12th) were also solid in the high jump with MASCAC qualifying marks of 1.80 meters each, while freshman Samuel Flint (Methuen, Mass.) rounded out the top Falcon efforts on the day with a post-season qualifying time of 9:33.33 in the 3000 meter with a 16th place finish.
