Falcons Shine At Reggie Poyau Invitational

McWhinnie-Armstead & Digman notch DIII NE qualifying marks for Green and Gold

Waltham, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's indoor track & field team placed sixth overall at the 2020 Reggie Poyau Invitational this afternoon iwth a total of 24 points, hosted by Brandeis University at the Gosman Sports and Convocation Center.

How It Happened

Junior Christian McWhinnie-Armstead (Lowell, Mass.) led the way for the Falcons, third overall in the high jump with a DIII New England qualifying mark of 1.90 meters, while newcomer Adam Digman (Winchendon, Mass.) added a fourth place total of 4,025 points in the heptathlon to also qualify for DIII NE's.

In the 3000 meter, junior Jacob Movsessian (New Ipswich, N.H.) (9:11.55) and freshman Matthew Catarius (Shrewsbury, Mass.) (9:58.44) placed second and 17th respectively to qualify for MASCAC's, while newcomer Nathaniel Felix (Worcester, Mass.) added a post-season qualifying time of 7.39 seconds in the 60 meter dash with a 14th place effort.

Freshman Conor Dandy (Westminster, Mass.) turned in an eighth place finish in the 400 meter with a MASCAC qualifying time of 54.25 seconds, while in the mile, Movsessian (15th) and sophomore Nicholas Sachetta (Billerica, Mass.) (16th) notched post-season qualifying times of 4:45.70 and 4:46.38.

In the 200 meter, Felix (18th) and freshman Chris Morales (Lynn, Mass.) (19th) posted post-season qualifying times of 24.11 seconds and 24.22 seconds, while Morales added an 11th place time of 1:30.28 in the 600 meter.

In the field, freshman Eric Shimiyimana (Worcester, Mass.) registered a fourth place effort in the triple jump with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 12.77 meters, while classmate Benjamin Sacramone (Hubbardston, Mass.) notched a sixth place total of 3,836 points in the heptathlon.

In the shotput, freshman Zanthius Collins (Franklin, Mass.) netted a MASCAC qualifying toss of 10.86 meters with a 21st place finish, while freshman Brandon Patanao (Marlborough, Mass.) collected a MASCAC qualifying and personal best jump of 1.85 meters in the high jump.

Shimiyimana rounded out the top Falcon efforts on the afternoon with MASCAC qualifying mark of 5.66 meters in the long jump after placing 15th overall in the event.
