Falcons Soar At Billy Brockmueller Invitational

4x200 meter relay and Digman set meet records for Green and Gold

Providence, R.I. – The Fitchburg State University men's indoor track & field team competed at 2020 Billy Brockmueller Invitational, hosted by Brown University this afternoon.

How It Happened

Freshman Adam Digman (Winchendon, Mass.) led the way for the Falcons, taking top honors in the 60 meter hurdles with a DIII NE qualifying time of 8.76 seconds to set a new meet record in the process, while classmate Zion Barber-Amado finished second in the 60 meter hurdles with a DIII New England qualifying time of 8.96 seconds.

The 4x200 meter relay team of Barber-Amado, junior Asante Monteiro (Fall River, Mass.), newcomer Chris Morales (Lynn, Mass.) and fellow freshman Nathaniel Felix (Worcester, Mass.) claimed first place with a new meet record time of 1:35.05, while in the 60 meter dash, Monteiro (7.21) and junior Joel Monteiro (Brockton, Mass.) (7.40) placed third and fifth to qualify for MASCAC's.

In the 200 meter, Morales, J. Monteiro, freshman Joshua Ilori and classmate Edgard Dossantos turned in post-season qualifying times of 24:16, 24:76, 24.91 and 25.17 seconds respectively after finishing first, fifth, eighth and tenth, while junior Jacob Movsessian (New Ipswich, N.H.) posted a fifth place effort in the 5000 meter to qualify for MASCAC's.

Sophomores Nicholas Sachetta (Billerica, Mass.) (2:02.92) and Trevor Fields (Shirley, Mass.) (2:08.38) both qualified for the post season in the 800 meter, placing first and fifth, while in the mile, junior Timothy Sheehy (Wakefield, R.I.) added a fifth place time of 4:38.85 to qualify for MASCAC's.

In the 5000 meter, newcomers Samuel Flint (Methuen, Mass.) and Matthew Catarius (Shrewsbury, Mass.) finished eighth and tenth with MASCAC qualifying times of 16:38.24 and 16:52.34, while Felix was also solid in the 400 meter, finishing ninth with post-season qualifying time of 1:00.33.

In the field, freshman Brandon Patanao (Marlborough, Mass.) (4th) and Digman (6th) notched MASCAC qualifying marks of 1.72m and 1.62m in the high jump, while in the long jump, newcomer Eric Shimiyimana (Worcester, Mass.), sophomore Brandon McNeil (Dartmouth, Mass.), freshman Zanthius Collins (Franklin, Mass.) and classmate Jalen Simpson finished first, second, eighth and ninth respectively with post-season qualifying jumps of 5.96m, 5.86m, 5.34m and 5.23m.

Newcomer Shaki Auston (Springfield, Mass.), freshman Benjamin Sacramone (Hubbardston, Mass.) and Ilori rounded out the top Falcon efforts on the day, placing third, fourth and fifth in the 60 meter hurdles with MASCAC qualifying times of 9.16 seconds, 9.20 seconds and 9.65 seconds.

In the triple jump, sophomore Brandon McNeil, freshman Eric Shimiyimana (Worcester, Mass.) and classmate Jalen Simpson placed second, fourth and ninth with post-season qualifying jumps of 12.64m, 12.46m and 11.52m, while newcomer Joseph Asare (Brockton, Mass.) placed ninth in the weight throw with MASCAC qualifying toss of 9.96 meters.

In the long jump, Shimiyiman (5th) and Simpson (9th) turned in post-season qualifying marks of 5.97 meters and 5.43 meters, while Asare (11.55m) and Collins (11.28m) rounded out the top efforts on the day for the Green and Gold, finishing seventh and eighth in the shotput to qualify for MASCAC's.
