FITCHBURG, Mass. – Sophomore Christian McWhinnie-Armstead (Lowell, Mass.) will represent Fitchburg State University this week at the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championships hosted by the University of Mount Union at the Greater Cleveland Sports Complex.

McWhinnie-Armstead currently ranks tenth in the nation in the high jump, earning his first trip to the big dance after a stellar sophomore season. Christian notched his qualifying jump into the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championships after placing first overall in the high jump with mark of 2.07 meters at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational on April 6, 2019.

The high jump will start at approximately 3:00 PM EST/2:00 PM CST on Friday, May 24th.

For each women's individual event including the pentathlon, the top 22 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition, while for each men's individual event including the heptathlon, the top 20 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each relay event contested, the top 16 declared relay teams, one per institution, were accepted in the competition.

The Fitchburg State men's and women's outdoor track and field teams recently concluded their seasons earlier this month as members of the squads competed at the 2019 DIII New England Championships, hosted by Williams College.
