McWhinnie-Armstead Places 17th In The High Jump At NCAA DIII Outdoor Track & Field Championships
Geneva, Ohio. – Sophomore Christian McWhinnie-Armstead (Lowell, Mass.) placed 17th overall in the high jump with mark of 1.98 meters this afternoon at the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championships at the Spire Institute.
McWinnie-Armstead entered the 2019 NCAA DIII Outdoor Track & Field National Championships ranked tenth in the country after securing his first trip to the big dance with a first place jump of 2.07 meters at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational on April 6th.
In addition, Christian also claimed the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) crown in the high jump with mark of 2.01 meters at the Fitchburg State hosted the conference championship meet in late April, while also earning DIII All- New England honors in the event after finishing second overall at the 2019 DIII NE Championships with jump of 2.01 meters at Williams College in early May.
For each women's individual event including the pentathlon, the top 22 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition, while for each men's individual event including the heptathlon, the top 20 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each relay event contested, the top 16 declared relay teams, one per institution, were accepted in the competition.
The Fitchburg State men's and women's outdoor track and field teams recently concluded their seasons earlier this month as members of the squads competed at the 2019 DIII New England Championships, hosted by Williams College.
