Falcons Defeated By Rams, 76-41

Framingham, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's basketball team dropped a 76-41 decision to the Rams of Framingham State University in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this evening from the Athletic Center.

How It Happened

1st quarter

The two teams traded baskets to start the contest as junior Mary Kate O'Day (Berlin, Mass.) hit a jumper for Framingham State, while junior Angelina Marazzi (Manchester, N.H.) connected on a bucket for Fitchburg State. The Rams went on an 8-0 run, capped by an O'Day layup for the 10-2 advantage before the Falcons cut the lead to 10-8 on layup from junior Catherine Coppinger (Boston, Mass.).

2nd quarter

Fitchburg State knotted the score at 10-10 to open the second frame on a layup from Marazzi, but Framingham State went on a 12-0 run, capped by an Emily Velozo (Tewksbury, Mass.) jumper for the 22-10 lead. The Rams extended their margin (33-17) on a layup from O'Day before the Falcons capped the first half on a Marazzi bucket to make the score 33-19 going into the break.

3rd quarter

Following the intermission, Fitchburg State cut into the deficit (39-26) on a three ball from junior Emma Thomson (York, Maine) and jumper by senior Kerry Brodbeck (Boston, Mass.) before Framingham State answered back with a Velozo layup for the 43-26 lead. The Rams upped their lead (54-29) on an O'Day jumper, but the Falcons answered back as Marazzi drained a three pointer in the corner.

4th quarter

The Green and Gold cut into the deficit on a three-pointer by sophomore Payton Holmes (Carver, Mass.) to make the score 70-41. Framingham State secured the victory as sophomore Kathy Jaracz (Chicopee, Mass.) sank a pair from the charity stripe, resulting in the 76-41 final.
