Falcons Fall To Owls, 106-76

Westfield, Mass. – The Fitchburg State Women's Basketball team dropped a 106-76 decision to the Owls of Westfield State this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic (MASCAC) action from the Woodward Center.

How It Happened

1st quarter

Fitchburg State took an 8-5 margin on a three-ball from senior Emma Thomson (York, Maine) before the Owls countered with a layup by senior Chelsea Moussette (Southampton, Mass.) to take a 14-12 margin.

The Falcons bounced back to take a 15-14 edge with senior Angelina Marazzi (Manchester, N.H.) converted a layup and a free-throw. Westfield State pushed its lead to 25-20 off a Moussette bucket, but the Green and Gold battled back to knot the score at 25-25 as freshman Lindsay McDonald (Stoughton, Mass.) hit a layup and Thomson drained another trey.

2nd quarter

Westfield State regained the lead (28-25) off an Isabella Atken (Pittsfield, Mass.) three ball before Fitchburg State cut the deficit to 28-27 on a pair of free-throws from Thomson. The Falcons chipped the lead to 42-39 as senior Catherine Coppinger (Boston, Mass.) connected on a layup, but the Owls would take a 47-38 margin into the break on an Ally Scolnick (South Easton, Mass.) basket.

3rd quarter

Following the intermission, Fitchburg State chipped into the deficit (51-42) on an and one by Marazzi before Westfield State answered with an 8-0 run to take a 59-42 margin, capped by a Melissa Gray (Peabody, Mass.) three pointer. The Falcons closed out the quarter with a Coppinger layup to cut the lead to 71-56.

 4th quarter

The Green and Gold opened the fourth frame with a pair of baskets from sophomore Jadelen Harold (Nantucket, Mass.) and a Samantha Maglione (Bolton, Mass.) jumper (73-62). The Owls would secure the victory though on back-to-back threes from Atken and Moussette, resulting in the
