Falcons Drop 86-58 Decision To Bears

Bridgewater, Mass. – The Fitchburg State Women's Basketball team dropped an 86-58 decision to the Bears of Bridgewater State this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from the Tinsley Center.

How It Happened

1st quarter

Bridgewater State opened the contest with a 9-0 lead as junior Destiny Fitzgerald (Medford, Mass.) notched a pair of buckets, while senior Nicole Bostick (East Taunton, Mass.) added a three pointer.

Fitchburg State cut the lead to 14-5 with junior Payton Holmes (Carver, Mass.) draining a three ball, while sophomore Jadelen Harold (Nantucket, Mass.) collected a layup. The Bears upped their margin (17-5) on a Hannah Dziadyk (Wakefield, Mass.) before the Falcons answered with baskets from Harold and junior Mishelle Logie (Attleboro, Mass.) to cut the deficit to 17-9.

2nd quarter

Fitchburg State chipped the lead to 17-12 to start the second quarter when senior Catherine Coppinger (Boston, Mass.) converted a layup and free-throw before Bridgewater State responded with a 14-0 run, capped by a Fitzgerald layup to extend the lead to 31-12.

The Bears upped their margin to 43-19 with a Daizdyk layup, but the Falcons would close out the first half scoring as senior Angelina Marazzi (Manchester, N.H.) registered a jumper to make the score 43-21 going into the break.

3rd quarter

Following the intermission, The Green and Gold continued to battle with Holmes knocking down another three-pointer, while Logie and Marazzi netted buckets to cut the lead to 48-28 before the Bears pushed their margin to 67-43 on a pair of free-throws by newcomer Sophia Gaucher (Lakeville, Mass.).

 4th quarter

Fitchburg State chipped the lead to 70-46 on layups from Harold and Marazzi before Bridgewater State answered with a Fitzgerald bucket. The Falcons would respond as Marazzi and Coppinger notched layup, but the Bears secured the victory when Goucher connected on a jumper, resulting in the 86-58 final.

  • Falcons were paced by Marazzi with a team-leading 17 points, five rebounds and two assists
  • Harold added 12 points and seven boards for Fitchburg State
  • For the Bears, Fitzgerald finished with a game-best 18 points, ten caroms, two assists and three steals
