Falcons Fall to Framingham State on Senior Day

 

 

Falcons recognize Coppinger, Thomson & Marazzi

 

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's basketball team dropped an 81-52 decision to the Rams of Framingham State this afternoon in Massachusetts State Athletic Collegiate Conference (MASCAC) action from the Parkinson Gymnasium.

How It Happened

1st quarter

Trailing 5-0 to start the game, junior Mishelle Logie (Attleboro, Mass.) reeled off a jumper and a buried a three ball to cut the Falcons deficit to 8-5. Senior Angelina Marazzi (Manchester, NH) sandwiched a bucket in-between a pair of hoops from Rams freshman Flannery O'Connor (Amesbury, Mass.) to keep it to 12-7. The Rams would close out the frame with a 12-0 run capped by a three-pointer from senior Emily Velozo (Tewksbury, Mass.) to lead 24-7 after one frame.

2nd quarter

Senior Catherine Coppinger (Boston, Mass.) opened the frame with a jumper in the paint, followed by a beyond-the-arc basket from classmate Emma Thomson (York, ME) to cut the score to 28-12. The Rams extended their lead (40-14) with a three-point play from senior Mary Kate O'Day (Berlin, Mass.). Fitchburg State University closed out the second with a 7-1 run including baskets from Coppinger, Thomson and a pair from the charity stipe from Logie to head into halftime trailing 44-21.

3rd quarter

The Rams opened the quarter with four points from O'Connor to push the score to 51-21. The Falcons countered with a trey from Thomson and a layup from Coppinger. A three-point play from Krysta Padellaro (Newburyport, Mass.) extended the Rams advantage (56-26). The Green and Gold finished with a jumper from Marazzi and a three-pointer from junior Payton Holmes (Carver, Mass).

4th quarter

The Falcons continued to chip away at the lead as Marazzi drained five straight (79-44), but Framingham State answered back with a jumper from junior Sophia Church (Rochester, Mass.). Following a layup from freshman Lovashia Rosario (Worcester, Mass.), the Rams secured the victory, resulting in the 81-52 final.

Inside the Numbers

  • Falcons were led by Thomson with a team-leading 15 points, while Marazzi finished with 13 points
  • Coppinger added six points and nine boards for Fitchburg State
  • O'Connor paced the Rams with a game-best 18 points and ten rebounds
  • O'Day chipped in with 17 points and 11 rebounds for Framingham State
  • Fitchburg State shot 19-for-68 (27.9%) from the field and (7-for-31) 22.6% from three point range
  • Framingham State finished 30-for-60 (50%) overall and (9-for-24) 37.5% for beyond the arc
  • Rams held a 54-33 margin on the glass
  • Falcons honored seniors #0 Angelina Marazzi, #22 Catherine Coppinger and #23 Emma Thomson prior to the contest. They also presented Marazzi with a commemorative 1,000 point ball.
